I am an Asian and have lived in South-East Asia since childhood until April 2024. Rice is the main food for us. At present, I eat rice every day. I learned how to make rice from my mother.
There are four steps to cooking white rice on the stove: 1) Rinse, 2) Boil, 3) Simmer, and 4) Steam. The basic water to white rice ratio is 2 cups water to 1 cup rice. Please let me explain step by step.
- Start with rinsing your rice before you do anything.
- Measure your rice and water. For most types of rice, you can use a water-to-rice ratio of 2:1.
- Combine the rice and water in a pot. Stir it and then put a lid on before turning the burner high.
- Ensure it's simmering and not boiling or the rice can cook too quickly. Simmer until water is completely absorbed and rice is tender – about 15-25 minutes (depending on the rice's size and freshness).
- Drain off any excess water if there is any.
- Then, steam it.
Once you followed the above steps, you can eat the white rice.
